    Q: How much protein should a bodybuilder consume?

    A: Two things factor into the equation to determine the amount of protein a person needs: body weight and physical activity. The ratio for a regular person is approximately .367 grams of protein per pound per day, or 36.7 grams per 100 pounds daily. For example, a 150 pound person would require 55 grams, whereas a 120 pound person could sneak by with a mere 44 grams of protein per day.

    It's estimated that a bodybuilder's protein requirements are much higher. Experts recommend 1-2 grams of protein per pound per day for someone who is brutalizing themselves in the gym on a regular basis. So a 150 pound person would need between 150-300 grams of protein daily. The most important time to get your protein in is within a half hour of finishing your workout. This is the window when your body is most apt to absorp the protein like a sponge and start the muscle repair process.
